Melanotan II
For research use only
Melanotan II
A cyclic alpha-MSH analogue, a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist. Seven amino acids in a cyclic structure, supplied as a lyophilised powder.
- A synthetic cyclic heptapeptide, an analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH).
- The cyclic structure makes it more resistant to degradation than linear alpha-MSH.
- It is **non-selective** — it acts on several melanocortin receptors including MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R. That is the main difference from Melanotan I.
- MC1R agonism is associated in the literature with the stimulation of melanogenesis.
- Action at MC4R is studied in connection with the regulation of food intake and with sexual function — it is precisely this lack of selectivity that accounts for the broader range of effects described.
- Engagement of MC3R and MC5R is less well studied.
- Melanogenesis and pigmentation.
- Melanocortin receptor signalling.
- Regulation of food intake through MC4R.
Melanotan II never completed clinical development. The published literature is
predominantly from preclinical models and case reports, not from controlled
studies. The literature also describes adverse events associated with its
non-selective action and with uncontrolled use.
Melanotan II is not authorised as a medicine in any jurisdiction known to us,
and several medicines agencies have publicly warned against its use in humans.
This item is a **reference standard intended strictly for laboratory and
research use**. It is neither a medicine nor a cosmetic, it must not be used for
administration to humans or animals, and we provide no dosing or health advice
with it.
The efficacy and safety of administering this substance to humans are not sufficiently established clinically. The information given here is solely a summary of published research findings, predominantly from laboratory and animal models. It constitutes neither a health claim nor a recommendation for use in humans. The product is intended strictly for research purposes and is not a medicine.
